Bachelor of Optometry deals with the study of eye care. It can be defined as the science behind eye equipment that is aimed at improving the vision of the human eye. It deals with the methods of eliminating barriers and disruption in the eye vision that people may be suffering from.

What is an optometrist?

  • Optometry is an independent primary eye care profession.
  • Optometrists are primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and the visual system who provides comprehensive eye and vision care which includes refraction and dispensing of optical aids, diagnosis and co-management of disease of the eye.

What does an optometrist really do?

  • Perform eye exams to check for vision problems.
  • Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses and low vision aids to correct vision problems optically.
  • Diagnose and co-manage eye diseases along with an ophthalmologist.
  • Provide both pre-operative and post-operative consultation and care.

Eligibility

  • Have Passed / Appeared / due-to-appear in 2023 at the Higher Secondary Examination in General or Vocational Stream under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or it's equivalent / Undergraduate program as prescribed from a recognized Board / University.
